THIS WEEK
TAKING A LOOK AT
Geoffrey Bodine
|
While it's agreed Pete Hamilton opened the door for the Northeast drivers to get into the Nextal Cup ("Hell" Winston Cup) when he headed down south in the late 60's, winning the biggest of NASCAR races, the 1970 Daytona 500. Then, you have to say Geoff Bodine, along with Ron Bouchard, knocked the door down when they went down south a decade later. A series that was dominated by Southern drivers all of the sudden had drivers from all parts of the country getting into the act down South. Geoff, now known as Geoffrey was not everyone's favorite while racing the Modifieds in New England, but, you can't take away the accomplishments he achieved. At 55 his racing career might be winding down, but every driver in the Northeast and beyond owes a bit of gratitude to Geoff Bodine, along with Ronnie Bouchard, for knocking down the door. Look for Geoffrey behind the wheel every week in the Craftsman Truck series in 2004. This week are some photos of Geoff's cars from the 70's. |
